We all know that workplace trust in teams is a fundamental for their success.  But what does trust really imply?  Here Patrick Lencioni, best-selling author, consultant and expert on building winning teams, discusses the importance of workplace trust and the difference between predictive trust and vulnerability based trust within a company.

One of my favorite  Patrick Lencioni quotes is: “Trust is knowing that when a team member does push you, they’re doing it because they care about the team.”

I always like sharing stories of past workplace breakdowns and challenges and how I handled the situation.  I share about the lessons I learned from the mistakes I have made.   When I am vulnerable and admit some of my past mistakes, I build trust and even more respect from my team.  They realize that I am human too.

What are you doing as a manager or member of your team to build trust?  The first step is to be vulnerable with your team.  This will allows others to be vulnerable with you and build workplace trust.  I would love to hear your stories!
